Tread Softly
Barnavave, Co.Louth
Gorse Pigment on stone wall.
The artwork was created using the land, my source material is a celebration of the natural beauty found in the Barnavave region. My goal was to create a piece that reflects the vibrant yellow hue of the gorse flower that is so prevalent in the area. Through experimentation, I have developed a laked pigment that captures this hue. I have used the pigment to create a contrasting visual that complements the bright gorse bushes and the stone walls found in the area. The technique I have developed involves applying the pigment to rocks and other natural materials using homemade eco glues. Through this process, I have created a manmade lichen on the rock that will wash away with the rain and leave the land as it was.
This piece was a site specific installation as part of the project “Tread softly “ curated by Shannon Carroll
